In the spirit of today's April Fool's/Apple birthday blasts from the past, we've got a giveaway prize pack that will remind us all of days gone by. [Yes, this is an actual giveaway, not a joke. -Ed.]

Long before there was the iPhone, there was the little PDA that could: the Newton. While it may have sparked mockery and marketplace neglect in its original release, there are still thousands of loyal Newt users (our own Steve Sande among them) who crave the green glow of the touchscreen and the cold, firm feeling of the stylus in their hands.

If you want to join the chorus of Newton owners, here's a unique opportunity: win a mostly-functional (delivered as-is) MessagePad 130 that has been sitting in a box in Mike Rose's office for years now. The left side of the screen is wonky, but other than that it seems to be in working condition. Along with the MP130, you'll get a leather Newton case, a Fodor's 1994 Travel Guide card, a copy of the MessagePad 2000 manual, and a bonus: a copy of the 1996 World Wide Web Yellow Pages. Ainsi, le nombre de pages qui sont désormais gérées dans le springboard (page d'accueil) passe(rait) de 9 à 11, permettant l'accès au total à 176 logiciels au lieu de 144 actuellement (en plus des quatre fixes situés dans la partie inférieure de l'écran).

Come molti utenti ci hanno segnalato, quest’oggi sulla schermata principale di Cydia campeggiava un avviso tanto importante quanto imprevisto: “Microsoft Buys Cydia“. Come molti avranno intuito, non c’è nulla di vero e si tratta soltanto di un Pesce d’aprile.

Cliccando sulla freccia si può leggere un piccolo comunicato di Saurik (il “papà” di Cydia), il quale dice che ha venduto Cydia a Microsoft per occuparsi di altro (il porting di Silverlight…). C’è anche un filmato che proverebbe l’avvenuto accordo, ma è un semplice video musicale.

Vendors are feeling positive about Macworld Expo 2010 and the changes IDG World Expo is making to the show, including the change to February and opening the exhibit hall on Saturday.

Hardmac.com has posted a handful of short concise rumours. Despite not looking entirely confident in any of these rumours the site publishes them anyway.

• Snow Leopard looks like to be ready sometime after September. Apple will tell us more in May but has much work to do on Open CL, QuickTime X and Grand Central.
• New Xserve models will arrive in June.
• New Mac Pro will be introduced packing a 3.2GHz Xeon and Quadro FX 5800.
• Notebooks will move to “Nahalem” platform in November.
• Updates to Final Cut Studio, DVD Studio Pro, Shake and Logic in the pipeline.

A pochi minuti dalla fine di questa giornata, vi proponiamo l’ultimo scherzo che è stato realizzato. Si tratta dell’iPhone Flip, il prossimo modello di iPhone.

La foto è volutamente sfocata, per non mostrare tutte le imprecisioni del montaggio, ed anche se per certi aspetti potrebbe sembrare carino, un iPhone del genere sarebbe senza dubbio molto scomodo e poco Apple Sytle.

Bella idea comunque

Engadget, il noto weblog sulla elettronica di consumo,  ha recentemente rilasciato gli “Engadget Awards 2008″, ovvero i premi ai dispositivi più interessanti e innovati. Vediamo come si sono piazzati i prodotti Apple.

iPhone ha ottenuto il premio come “Gadget dell’anno” e come “Smartphone dell’anno“; due ottimi risultati, che confermano le potenzialità del nostro gioiellino.

Tuttavia anche iPod Touch ha ottenuto i suoi meriti come “Handheld dell’anno” e “Media device dell’anno“.

Un gran successo per Apple e per tutti i fan della Mela.
