Remember George Hotz? He’s the guy(kid) that unlocked the first iPhone and traded it for a Nissan 350Z and 3 8GB iPhones. Well, he’s done it again, but this time it’s a jailbreak, not an unlock. This is for the iPhone 3GS on the 3.0 firmware using Windows. I had to start the app over a few times to get it to work but I got it! If you have troubles, let us know in the comments. Yes, this is what you’ve all been waiting for. A jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS. And it’s awesome. To get started right now, go to purplera1n.com. Download it. Make sure you have windows(but not 7), the latest iTunes installed, and an iPhone 3GS with 3.0 firmware. Connect your iPhone normally. Click “make it ra1n”. Wait. On bootup, run Freeze, the purplera1n installer app. Hopefully you’ll figure out what to do from there. Best tutorial gets linked to from purplera1n site. This tool is beta. Make sure to have everything backed up before running. Also if Cydia doesn’t show up after running Freeze, reboot.

Normally I don’t make tools for the general public, and rather wait for the dev team to do it. But guys, whats up with waiting until 3.1? That isn’t how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes, we find new holes. It isn’t worth waiting because you might have the “last” hole in the iPhone. What last hole…this isn’t golf. I’ll find a new one next week. Also your purplera1nyday files ensure that you can always get back to a jailbroken state, so if you have it it’s just a matter of tools.

Props to chronic dev for their help, and to kroo for writing v2 of Freeze. And props to Saurik for making an awesome package set. Note the binary size of purplera1n, it’s smaller than C++ hello world. No 20MB thing that needs to be torrented. And no IPSW to download. This is how jailbreak should be!

Just in case you haven't yet heard, ngmoco has released Rolando 2 out into the App Store for the premium price of $9.99. The game's subtitled Quest for the Golden Orchid (in this one, you're rescuing a relic rather than a prince), and though it's not cheap by App Store standards, but on the other hand, it's as quality a game as you'll find on the iPhone. We were big fans of the first one, and the second one ups the ante with a brand new 3D look (though still the same great 2D gameplay), and lots more types of Rolandos to roll and jump and fly and drive around the more than 45 new levels. It's fair to say that if you liked the first one, you'll love this one, and if you've never tried rolling a Rolando around, this is a perfect opportunity to start.

There, unfortunately, no lite version of the second game yet, but there is a version of the first one to try, and there are lots of movies to watch over on ngmoco's site, so you can probably get the idea from there. If you're interested in gaming on the iPhone at all, Rolando's on the short list no matter what your tastes are.

Ancora uno spot per iPhone 3GS destinato alla tv americana (ma, di conseguenza, tramite il video sharing, alle platee di tutto il mondo).

Questa volta la caratteristica messa in risalto è l’editing video: sembra davvero una bazzecola registrare e montare (anche se molto approssimativamente) un breve filmato grazie alla potenza di compressione garantita dal nuovo processore, e alle feature del nuovo sistema operativo 3.0.

E, di fatti, lo è. Guardiamo insieme il video.

Cult Of Mac ha riportato un’inserzione su eBay tramite la quale viene messo in vendita un prototipo dell’iPhone 3GS.

Il telefono non funziona e tramite iTunes non è possibile caricare nessun firmware attuale. L’utente che lo ha messo in vendita è considerato molto affidabile su eBay ed ha dichiarato di aver ricevuto il telefono da un amico, il quale, lo scorso maggio, l’aveva trovato in un aeroporto.

Il venditore ha portato il dispositivo in un Apple Store, ed i ragazzi addetti al Genius Bar hanno confermato che il prodotto appartiene ad Apple ma che non è mai stato venduto. Malgrado le convinzioni del venditore però, il dispositivo sembra essere un vero prototipo ma non di un 3GS bensi di un semplice 3G.

Ricordando che l’iPhone non funziona vi segnaliamo che l’asta ha già superato i 300$ e sicuramente l’oggetto verrà aggiudicato ad un amante delle cose “rare”.

E’ appena stato rilasciato il nuovo episodio di Pocket God, un gioco che è resistito 4 mesi nella classifica delle 10 applicazioni più scaricate dall’AppStore. L’episodio 20, come saprete, aggiunge la possibilità di raccogliere dei legnetti e di accendere un fuocherello sul quale potremo cuocere sia i pesci che gli indigeni:

La prossima versione si chiamerà “Flipping the Bird” e dovrebbe arrivare in AppStore in tempi brevi.
