emetschek North America released the 2010 versions of its Vectorworks line of design software, including Designer, Architect, Landmark, Spotlight, Machine Design, Fundamentals, and Renderworks. Also, Prizmo 1.1 adds OCR technology to the image-processing application, Wolfram Research announced webMathematica 3, and Red Sweater Software fixed some bugs in its Black Ink crossword puzzle-solving app.

One of my favorite little utilities has been updated to fully support Mac OS X 10.6.1. Default Folder X makes it easy to navigate when both saving and opening files, and it has saved me constant hours of prowling around for folders where I save and open stuff. It's been particularly valuable when I'm working on a new book, because I have graphics and text strewn all over the place in folders on multiple disks.

This new update also adds improved capabilities in Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5. In Snow Leopard I saw some nasty strange screen drawing anomalies, and that is now fixed with this most recent version. The developers also say there are improvements when using Final Cut Pro, QuickTime Player 7, and other applications that export files using QuickTime.

You can try the utility for free for 30 days. Otherwise it is US $34.95, or $14.95 for users of versions bought before June 1, 2007.

It's nice to see this utility updated, and while I love it dearly, it would have been so nice if more of this functionality had been built in to OS X natively. Until then, Default Folder X is a great solution for opening and saving files in a completely quick and sane manner.

When you only have a handful of Macs in an office or household to upgrade to a new operating system, it's no great problem to run around with the installation DVD and upgrade one machine at a time. But when you're supporting a large office or school environment, it's impossible to take the time to manually upgrade each machine. That's where tools like Apple Remote Desktop and LANrev come in handy.

LANrev 5.2 has been released today, with full compatibility with Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard. LANrev uses a proprietary imaging process that saves the home directory and OS settings of each machine during an automated OS deployment, so that the users are back up and running as quickly as possible afterwards.

IT professionals can not only roll out Snow Leopard faster using LANrev, but the application also tracks Snow Leopard machines for asset inventory and provides for remote management of Macs. LANrev has an asset inventory for storing license numbers and purchasing information, which is critical for audits. LANrev can track the location of stolen Macs and provide law enforcement officials with information to locate and recover the machines. For those who are concerned about power usage, LANrev does automated power management of large Mac installations, putting Macs to sleep or shutting them down when they're idle.

Unlike Apple Remote Desktop, LANrev works in cross-platform environments, so it's useful for situations where a small group of Mac users may exist in a Windows world -- or vice versa. No pricing info is available on the LANrev Web site, so be sure to contact one of their distribution partners if you're interested in this professional administration tool.

Le guide sono estremamente semplici e si differenziano in base al sistema operativo e all’applicazione che intendete utilizzare. C'est devenu une ritournelle classique : Apple sort un nouveau Firmware iPhone, celui-ci casse le jailbreak, la dev team tente alors de contourner les nouvelles difficultés et .... cette fois-ci encore, il semble qu'ils aient réussi, tout du moins partiellement.

En effet, un billet sur leur blog indique qu'ils ont réussi mais pour certaines machines seulement : PwnageTool 3.1 en version Mac OS X est donc disponible pour les iPhone 1ere génération, l'iPhone 3G et l'iPod Touch de première génération.

Bien entendu, ceci reste non supporté par Apple, risqué pour ceux qui ne savent pas parfaitement ce qu'ils font et truffé de notes en anglais à lire attentivement si jamais vous prenez le risque ...

Con questa guida vediamo come effettuare il jailbreak, e il relativo unlock, del firmware 3.1 su iPhone 3G e iPhone 2G

Ecco i passaggi da seguire:

1. Scaricate PwnageTool da questo link (torrent) o da questo (download diretto)

2. Scaricate il firmware 3.1 relativo al vostro dispositivo da questo link

3. Assicuratevi di avere iTunes 9 (link)

4. Avviate PwnageTool 3.1.1

5. Selezionate il dispositivo che volete sbloccare e andate avanti

6. Nella parte superiore della finestra selezioniamo la modalità avanzata. Pwnage tool cercherà automaticamente il firmware da modificare. In caso non dovesse trovarlo, cliccate sul pulsante al centro della finestra e dategli il percorso al file .ipsw che vi abbiamo fatto scaricare precedentemente.

7. Ora ci comparirà il menu di customizzazione

8. In Globali, se abbiamo iPhone 3G disabilitiamo la voce di attivazione del telefono (chi ha l’iPhone 3G deve disabilitare anche la voce “Attiva l’aggiornamento della baseband) . Con iPhone 2G invece dobbiamo abilitarla. Lasciamo tutto il resto invariato. Tornate indietro.

9. iPhone 2G: andiamo in Bootneuter e attiviamo le voci “Neuter bootloader”, sblocca la baseband e “auto elimina bootneuter.app”. Tornate indietro

- Le altre voci servono ad inserire package in Cydia, a personalizzare il logo di accensione (consigliamo di disabilitare quelli attivati di default) e ad inserire package propri.

10. Cliccate su Crea e salviamo il custom firmware sullla scrivania. Dopo qualche secondo ci verrà chiesta la password di sistema, inseritela.

11. Dopodiché comparirà una finestra che ci chiede se il nostro iPhone è stato sbloccato prima d’ora. Clicchiamo su NO

12. Ora partirà la solita procedura per disporre il nostro iPhone in modalità DFU. Seguite le istruzioni: spegniamo il telefono, premiamo i tasti Home e Accensione per 10 secondi, lasciamo SOLO il tasto Accensione, continuando a premere il tasto Home per altri 10 secondi. Entreremo in modalità DFU

13. Chiudiamo Pwnage Tool ed apriamo iTunes, ci comparirà una finestra che ci avvisa che il nostro iPhone è in modalità di recupero, clicchiamo su OK e in seguito tenendo premuto il tasto ALT sulla tastiera del Mac, clicchiamo sull’icona RIPRISTINO. Scegliamo il firmware che Pwnage Tool ci ha appena creato e che abbiamo salvato sulla scrivania. Se durante il processo di ripristino compaiono degli errori, scollegate e collegate il cavo USB.

14. Partirà la normale procedura di ripristino. Alla fine avrete il vostro iPhone jailbroken.

15. Chi ha un iPhone 3G straniero può installare e lanciare Ulstrasn0w per effettuare lo sblocco.
