Proprio come vi avevamo anticipato, l’applicazione DropBox è appena stata aggiornata ed è ora compatibile con il Firmware 3.0. Molti più utenti potranno installarla e godere delle sue ottime funzioni.

Ricordiamo quindi che DropBox è un servizio che mette a disposizione gratuita 2GB di spazio per archiviare tutti i propri documenti, immagini, video, musica e quant’altro. Tramite l’applicazione iPhone potrete accedere al vostro disco e visualizzare tutti i File. Se non avete ancora provato il servizio, vi consiglio di farlo adesso.

A few minutes after we heard about all of the new product announcements this morning, this email came in from TUAW reader Daniel:

Can you god blessed brains explain in some easy-to-understand way what are the possibilities for a Mac mini server for us non-tech brained mortals?

Why, of course we can, Daniel! That's why we're here.

I have personally used Mac minis as servers since shortly after the first G4 models came out on the market. In fact, at one point I personally had two of them at Macminicolo.net, a wonderful little company that was founded on the belief that Mac minis were great servers. I've installed at least a dozen for clients, and they are excellent for small businesses for the following reasons:

They're inexpensive. When you start looking at an Xserve, you want to start looking at mass storage and tape libraries as well. Pretty soon, the cost of a fully-loaded Xserve starts looking astronomical to a small business. That's not to say that Xserves don't have their place -- in fact, I have had two of my clients start with Mac minis and then move to Xserves when they found that they were outgrowing the mini servers. With the new $999 price point for a mini with an unlimited Mac OS X Server 10.6 license, two built-in 500 GB drives, and 4 GB of RAM, almost anybody can afford to own a server that provides email, instant messaging, calendaring, a wiki, podcast production, and more to a small workgroup.

They make it simple. The advantage of Mac OS X Server's software suite is power with a pretty face; it exposes the UNIX power of Mac OS X (including the industry-standard Apache, PHP, Samba and Jabber/XMPP stacks) with the relative ease of the Mac. While you can certainly roll your own server setup using conventional Mac OS X (either using Apple's shipped versions of Apache & PHP, or bumping them up), having the server administration tools makes everything a lot nicer. What's more, the standalone unlimited-license version of Server is a full $499, making this a straightforward bargain.

Alongside Apple’s main products announcements the company also quietly updated and released several new products.

Behind the scenes Apple gave the Apple Remote a new aluminium look whilst continuing to sell for $19 (£15). The new aluminium Apple Remote can be used with any Mac made since 2005 and will also work with any iPod with a Dock connector and iPhones when used in conjunction with an iPod Universal Dock as well as Apple TV.

Apple also updated both the AirPort Extreme base station and Time Capsule, relatively unchanged the new units are said to offer 50% increased wireless performance and 25% improved range. The improvements are reportedly provided by a revised antenna design.

Qualche giorno fa, vi abbiamo proposto una guida per abilitare gli MMS sugli iPhone EDGE con firmware 3.1.2, adesso gli stessi file sono stati resi disponibili tramite un nuovo package in Cydia, chiamato Native MMS iPhone EDGE.

Se avete un iPhone EDGE e siete sul firmware 3.1.2 non dovete fare altro che installare questo package e riavviare l’iPhone. Quando si sarà acceso, impostate tutti i parametri necessari da Impostazioni > Generali > Rete e godetevi gli MMS.

Trovate Native MMS iPhone EDGE nella repository di iFoneGuide, che potete aggiungere cercando proprio “iFoneGuide” su cydia.

Nota: La patch dovrebbe funzionare anche sul Firmware 3.1 ma siccome l’abbiamo testata soltanto sull’ultima versione, vi invitiamo a fare molta attenzione, dato che la corruzione del CommCenter potrebbe obbligarvi ad un ripristino.

Con Native MMS iPhone 2G possiamo abilitare gli MMS su iPhone 2G.

Tutto quello che dobbiamo fare è installare il tweak (lo trovate nella repo ifoneguide, da installare sempre tramite Cydia) e riavviare l’iPhone.

Tale tweak va a “patchare” il CommCenter, abilitando proprio i messaggi multimediali. Logicamente bisogna poi modificare le impostazioni relative al proprio operatore.
